Hire a delivery driver in Greater Montreal
The pool of delivery drivers is wide: a Class 5 licence is enough for a car or a van, and Job Bank notes that several experienced workers are looking for work in this occupation. The sorting therefore happens elsewhere: the driving record, how a run is organized and how your customers are treated. This page gives you a job description to copy and eight interview questions.

- Describe your last run: how many stops, what vehicle, what goods?
- You have 25 stops and a fixed appointment at midday. How do you build your route?
- What licence class do you hold, and which trucks does it allow you to drive?
- The customer is not home and the building is locked. What do you do with the parcel?
- What do you check on the vehicle before leaving in the morning?
- A customer disputes the quantity delivered in front of you. How do you settle it?
- Have you ever had a fender-bender or a ticket while driving a work vehicle? What did you do next?
- Your run falls behind from the first stops. Who do you notify, and what do you change?
Timelines and difficulties
Job Bank rates the group’s outlook as Moderate, in Quebec and in each of the five Greater Montreal regions; the Québec.ca profile, built on a longer horizon, rates it Good. Either way, the pool is not empty: Job Bank notes that several experienced workers are looking for work in this occupation. The difficulty lies in the sorting. First, the licence: Class 5 covers cars and vans, but not a truck with 3 axles or a 2-axle truck of 4,500 kg net mass or more, which require Class 3. Name the exact vehicle in the posting. Second, the gross vehicle weight rating: from 4,500 kg, even when driven on Class 5, the vehicle is heavy in the eyes of the SAAQ, with pre-trip inspection, driving and rest hours and operator registration; a candidate who has never done an inspection will need to learn it. Third, handling: state the average parcel weight and the number of stops in the posting, so candidates know what they are signing up for. Québec.ca also lists this trade among non-traditional occupations for women, who make up 7.9 % of the workforce: a posting that speaks to everyone widens a pool that is already wide.
