Hiring by occupation

Hire a logistics coordinator in Greater Montreal

Hiring a logistics coordinator turns on one question: are they coordinating production or transport? Both carry the same title and live in the same occupational group, but a plant scheduler and an international shipping coordinator do not do the same job. This page gives you a job description to copy, the requirements that actually hold up, and eight questions that get a real week described.

Eight interview questions

  1. Describe the last week where your plan held from Monday to Friday. What made that possible?
  2. A critical inbound fails to arrive and three orders depend on it: who do you call, in what order, and who decides?
  3. Which system did you run, and what did you do outside the system because it had no way to handle it?
  4. How do you choose between paying more to deliver on time and pushing the delivery out?
  5. Have you prepared customs documentation? Which documents, and for what kind of shipments?
  6. Do you hold a transportation of dangerous goods certificate? For which classes, and who issued it?
  7. Tell me about a time your sequence caused a missed delivery. What changed afterwards?
  8. Were you coordinating mostly production or mostly transport, and which of the two suits you better?

Timelines and difficulties

The title is the first trap. Logistics coordinator covers both plant scheduling and shipment follow-up, and the National Occupational Classification files both under one group, 13201. A posting that does not pick a side attracts serious candidates who will never do what you expect, and the gap surfaces in week three. The second point is the system: nearly the whole job happens inside an ERP or a warehouse management system, and experience on one does not transfer as fast as a posting assumes. Budget weeks of ramp-up on yours, and ask for system experience in general rather than demanding your exact tool, which empties the pool. Third, compliance. If you offer dangerous goods for transport, Part 6 of the federal regulations obliges you to train the person and issue the certificate yourself — a certificate from a previous employer covers that employer's classes and tasks, not yours. Finally, state the real span of the day. Job Bank notes that a week in this occupation generally runs past forty hours; someone who finds that out after the offer walks.
